Beginnings</i>

"Scorpius, are you alright?" Albus waved his hand in front of Scorpius's face, getting Scorpius out of his trance.
"What?"
"You were daydreaming, mate…or something."
Daydreaming was a lie, but Scorpius nodded anyways. He had been watching Rose, her crimson hair curling naturally down just past her shoulders. She laughed genuinely, smiling brightly at something her cousin James had said. He closed his mouth quickly, feeling its sudden dryness. Merlin, why does she have to make me so nervous? he thought, remembering their date tonight.

Scorpius and Rose snuck into Hogsmeade, glad it was dusk already outside. They stopped at the Three Broomsticks, Rose smiling the whole time.
"Oi, aren't you kids supposed to be back at the school by now?" The bartender gave them a suspicious look.
"You could spare us this one night, couldn't you?" Rose answered, leaning on the counter, smiling innocently.
"Bah," the man said after a moment, "As long as you stop giving me that face." He grinned and batted at the air in front of her, bringing up two Butterbeers. "But you're paying double."
"Wha--?!" Scorpius started, but Rose interrupted him with a nudge of her elbow.
"Of course we will." Her smile never dropped or even twitched. "Thank you." She took the two foamy drinks and handed one to Scorpius, grinning smugly now. He hmphed, impressed.
They sat in the corner of the pub, where the lights were more dimly lit. She sat opposite him, smiling and waiting for a conversation starter from Scorpius. He just sat in his part of the booth, holding his drink and leaning on his arm. Her smile dropped slightly.
"Scorpius," she started.
"Hmm?"
She hhrmmed and sat back in the booth, slouching and almost pouting.
"What?" he asked, pulling at his jeans under the table.
"Usually this is the part of the date where you start a conversation with me, but you seem to have nothing to say." Her lips twitched up into a smile. "Are you nervous, Scorpius?"
"What? No."
"Because I think you're nervous." She leaned forward on the table, loving how different he was with her than with the other girls she had seen him with.
"What? No, I'm not. Sorry to disappoint you." He was glad he could come up with a witty remark to cover his nerves around her. It didn't work. Her smile just widened.
"You are nervous." Her whole face brightened at the idea.
"What? No. You wish I was, Weasley." She giggled at him.
"Come here," she said, "I wanna try something."
"Try what?"
"Come here. I think it might help your nerves." She leaned more on the table, grinning like she had a plan. He loved that grin, so he did as he was told, scooting over in the booth until he was sitting next to her. He smiled at whatever she was thinking, which was kind of like smiling without knowing why he was smiling. She smiled, too, her face and ears starting to turn red. Why? Scorpius wasn't sure. Rose was harder to read than any girl he ever dated.
Rose took the opportunity she'd been thinking about for the past week, putting her hands on his face and kissing him. She could feel the surprise in his face, but he relaxed and enjoyed it, kissing her back. Beginning: the point of time or space at which something begins. For Scorpius, the beginning was the point of time that Rose kissed him.
