Thorns: Rose and Scorpius Ch. 7

Chapter 7 -  Rose

I slept quite well that night, making up for the hours that I had missed the night before. The morning was a different story.
I was definitely second-guessing this new fangled relationship with Scorpius. I doubting how we were actually going to be able to be together, at least in front of people. I felt like every person that glanced my way could see it written all over my face.
The Great Hall was packed with students for breakfast. I sat next to Lily and James as usual, although Lily's constant chatter with her friends is hard to endure.
"Hey, you," James said, wrapping his arm around my neck and shaking my head. I laughed and pushed him off, my face going red from my still present anxiety.
"Hey…"
He looks at me. "Why're you like that?"
"Like what?"
"Your ears are all red." He laughed and grabbed the one closest to him.
"Ow!" I turned around and looked at the Slytherin table. Scorpius was laughing at something Albus said. As if on cue, he caught my gaze and smiled, winking at me. I'm not sure how Albus didn't notice.
The rest of breakfast was spent casting glances over at Scorpius, then quickly turning away when anyone else noticed. It was ridiculously uncomfortable.
Scorpius caught up with me after my first class, taking me outside to the courtyard. I giggled the whole time, feeling silly.
His arms took my waist when we finally balanced ourselves.
"You okay?" he asked, smiling.
"Fine. Just a little unsure."
He sat on one of the marble benches, taking me with him. "How can Rose Weasley ever be unsure of anything?"
"Because of you." I poked his chest.
"What did I do?"
"Nothing, besides being you." I giggled. "Just…you're…"
"I shouldn't have kissed you yesterday, right?"
"No! No." I answered much too quickly, my enthusiasm at the memory still too much for me to control. "I just don't know if it's the best idea to be like this in front of other people…"
He nodded and waited a moment, then nodded again. "That makes sense."
"Th--That's it? That's all you have to say?"
"Er…you're brilliant?"
I giggled. "That's true. But…do you agree?"
"Yeah. I don't feel like dealing with your family just yet." He ran a hand through his hair. Ugh. I hated that I liked it when he did that. "And you don't want to meet mine yet, either," he added with a nervous chuckle.
"Why not?"
"…We can talk about that later. I just want to ask: can we be more…er…"
"Here?"
He smiled. "You know me too well, but yeah. Because I can take on James, and Albus won't notice until a month later." We both giggled at that.
"You don't know James. But…can we wait for just a few weeks? I just want to get used to this"--I gestured at the both of us--"before we try to get anyone else used to it." I giggled silently, thinking of how James would react to seeing Scorpius and I snog. And speaking of which, Scorpius had started kissing my cheek, close to my jawbone, in the middle of my inner situation processor. I grinned and giggled outrageously, making him smile on the space between my ear and jawbone. He took my hand in his, moving his lips closer to my cheekbone, holding the kiss there. My face went hot, and I swear he felt it. He pulled away as the bell rang.
"Oh! No, no, no. I don't have my books!" I shoved him, only making him lean over, an understatement to what I wanted to happen.
He took my hand again. "I'll be late with you," he said, smiling sweetly.
"Of course you will, since the bell just rang and we're--" Scorpius put a finger over my mouth.
"I was trying to say something sweet and cliché, which is very rare, Rose. So, you're going to have to love the little times I say them."
